Abdominal muscle tear/strain

Hi all, i was wondering if anyone has had any experience of having a dog who has damaged their abdominal muscle (rectus abdominis think it is)? My 2 yr crazy springer taz loves agility but lately i noticed he was reluctant to jump over anything or into the car etc to the point that he wont jump now. After 2 vet visits and 2 from physio its being discovered that the site of his discomfort is his abdomen and that hes damaged the muscles though not sure how (i personally blame my 4 mth springer aptly named chaos lol). Now 3-6 wks of lead rest awaits to reduce the strain on it so can hopefuly heal (my idea of hell given hes a springer who doesnt know the meaning of the word rest or lead walking lol) . Wondering if anyone has any tips or advice to help aid his recovery or help speed the healing so he can return to full fitness and be allowed to do what he loves most.....to run flat out n jump anything in his path

On the subject of qualifying for Champ

On the back of the "Well Dones" to Laura Innes, to which I add my own Congratulations! I was wondering about other statistics and Champ classes.

Those of us who compete in Scotland all know that Heather McLean currently runs dogs in all 3 sizes and her medium, Mooie , has achieved Champ status this year .
Does anyone know of anyone else who does this? I know of several who have a medium & small, or even large & small or large & medium, but can't think of anyone else who has achieved all 3 sizes at once? (Please forgive me if there is someone in deepest, darkest Englandshire who hasn't come up on my radar).

There are also a couple of sisters who compete up here, who have 6 competing dogs between them (3 each) - Lynn Crombie & Gwen Knox, whoc run "The Easterdales". They have all got to Grade 7 the last, Easterdales Just the Tonic (Sally) just this weekend which will mean that there will be 6 Easterdales in Champ in Scotland!

Is it something in the water?!!

Thank you Letchworth ...

... for a super, friendly show, great weather, wonderful walkies, lovely trophies (Bracken managed a 2nd and a 3rd despite my bad handling!) and a special thank you to everyone who worked on ring 8 on Saturday and/or ran their dogs in the ring ! You made my "day in the middle" very happy! Special thanks, too, to Ken and Don who had the misfortune to judge my baby Hobi at his debut show and had the grace and patience to make a traumatic experience most enjoyable!

That's all folks!

That's it, we are done!
Due to injury Bryn didn't get to finish his season at Prestbury, well not competetively anyway, so the Team Dash Final was our last this year.
Trainers always say finish on a high so that will do for us, 4th place ain't bad is it?
With Chris off to Uni on Sunday I will finally get to run my second dog, if only in training, after an 8 year wait!
I am hoping that Bryn and I will be back next year even if only doing UKA Casual, won't get out of bed for one run - two will be bad enough.
I might even get to run Fly at an early show with Chris away in the frozen north (Wolverhampton).
There's a question, is there an agility club near the Uni he could get to to get a fix now and then?
OK - Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to our readers - see you in 2011.

Olympia Semis

I would just like to say a couple of words about the Qlympia Semis, firstly a huge thank -you to Dave Ray for giving me the privilige of Judging these important classes. It was extremely hard work but with the experience of Dave and his magnicent crew,(Anne and Gwyn(the long jump king) Roberts,Rob Hunter and Elaine, Pauline and Roger, Sean Young and Liz Morgan,Kate smith for her commentary debut, superb with some hiarious moments in there. Of course not only my scribe but good buddy Paul Moore who is also there to run the rule over my courses, thanks mate, we managed to get through the three days relatively unscathed. And of course to Karen who i couldnt do any of the judging i do without as she takes the worry of looking after the dogs away from me, thank you hun xx.

Secondly a thank you and congratulations and comisserations to all of you competitors who took part in the Semis, you all took part with great sportsmanship and even when things didnt quite go right still kept smiling.I really enjoyed judging you all and some of the runs were stunning, i have to say that the Medium Semi produced some of the best competion i have seen, three stunning runs and one stunning run that was to end with a massive hard luck story. It was Agility at its best at any height.

Good luck to all who qualified for the finals and once again a big thank you to everybody involved in three days of great competition.

Prestbury Park...

Just wanted firstly to congratulate Rachel and her team for an absolutely fantastic show!

Great signage to and within the venue.
Plenty of large and clean loos.
Wonderful selection of trade stands and food! Not good too much temptation!
Some fabulous courses and wonderful judges - Big thank you to Mr Cavill for including a wall in Grade 3 for us... sooo nice to have something a bit different in Grade 3. I know some of the dogs are babies (mine is too) but it's nice to get a wall out of the way rather than experiencing it for the first time in an important qualifier.
Not sure who booked the rain Rach - but can you sack them?

Secondly huge congratulations to all the Wallingford guys who seemed to corner the market in 5th place rosettes! All four teams did really well in the Dash...

I know so many people had great results and some didn't get the results they had hoped for but I watched some fantastic runs this weekend! A couple of the dogs are advertising for new handlers on Agilitynet I think...!!!

Lastly - thanks to my dogs, all my friends and my trainers for their support. Both my dogs have had serious injuries this year (Ben's first time out this weekend since breaking his foot - He loved the Anysize and had no idea he wasn't doing 'proper' Agility! ) I have only managed about 6 shows but each one has been special and we only left one show empty handed this year.

So thank you Agility folk for being such fab people and if I don't make it to the UKA show next weekend see you all next season! Here's to no broken dogs next year!

Garden fencing for dogs on caravan sites

Just went away in the caravan...but not to a dog show We have stayed at other sites, but its fair to say that most of our camping and caravanning is done at dog shows.

We always put our garden fencing up and find it so easy to let the dogs run free in and out of the caravan (only whilst we are there). I have tried tie out stakes but it really put me off when my puppy managed to get her collar caught and started to strangle herself, aside from the fact they are always getting their leads twisted up. We use the green plastic netting with metal poles.

We went on a dog friendly site this weekend and asked if we could put our fence up, we were told there was no problem...that was until we put it up and we were told it was an eyesore, too big and that we needed to take it down. We were only there for a weekend and managed to negotiate to keep it up and it really did make a big difference, meant no other dogs were coming up to ours and meant ours were happy and having fun...which made it nice and relaxing for us. We even had another camper say what a good idea it was.

We've used it on other small sites, but this was the first 'proper' site we've been on and I just wondered if other people have had problems? Is it completely inappropriate to have a garden on a campsite?

It has put us off going on Caravan Club sites and the like as we felt really uncomfortable all weekend knowing we were an 'eyesore'...I know the fences aren't pretty but didn't think it was that bad!

AdamsAgility - 'Weave Sections'

I have seen on AdamsAgility's site that they do 'weave sections' which by the description sound like 2x2 weaves. Secondly, are they a full set (12 poles) or not? Because they are advertised as £32, in the size section it says they are a set of 2 poles section but in the description it says 6 sets of 2 poles can be combined for a 12 pole weave. So its like they are a full set and then they aren't. I have emailed them twice about this and had no reply, so thought I would try here to see if anyone else has bought them.
